All IIQE papers are multiple-choice with a 70% passing mark. Paper 1 (Principles and Practice of Insurance): 75 questions, 120 minutes, 53 correct to pass. Paper 2 (General Insurance): 50 questions, 75 minutes, 35 correct to pass. Paper 3 (Long Term Insurance): 50 questions, 75 minutes, 35 correct to pass. Paper 5 (Investment-Linked Long Term Insurance): 80 questions, 120 minutes, 56 correct to pass. Exams are administered by PEAK (VTC) via written test ($185), computer-based test ($250), or remote exam ($850). Online registration only.

The MPFE consists of 80 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, with a 70% passing mark (56 correct answers). Questions are presented in both Chinese and English. The exam is paper-based, held monthly, and costs HK$305 (HK$325 from 1 April 2026). It is administered by HKSI on a first-come-first-served basis.

It depends on the type of insurance: General insurance (e.g. motor, home) requires Papers 1 + 2. Long term insurance (e.g. life, critical illness) requires Papers 1 + 3. Investment-linked policies additionally require Paper 5. Selling MPF products requires a separate MPFE pass. Paper 1 is mandatory for all insurance intermediaries.
